Floodlighting to existing sports facilities in the historic Sefton Park, Liverpool (November 2022)

Updated: May 10, 2023

Secured planning permission for the installation of floodlights and a new footpath at the Mersey Bowmen Lawn Tennis Club in Sefton Park. The project will provide greater opportunities for club members and the wider community to play tennis at the second oldest tennis club in the world. It also improves access allowing wider participation of the sport for under represented groups. The project is supported by Sport England, the Lawn Tennis Association and Liverpool Council.

The proposal involved a complex set of issues. This included potential impacts to heritage assets as the Park is a Grade I Registered Park and Garden within the Sefton Park Conservation Area, environmental assets such as nearby trees, and biodiversity assets such as bats and birds.
